Restylane Cost

In December 2003, the FDA approved the dermal filler Restylane for cosmetic use in the United States. Even before receiving approval, dermatologists and surgeons had been using the substance since 1996.

The non-animal hyaluronic acid filler is injected into the skin in areas where the naturally occurring hyaluronic acid has dissipated, over time revitalizing the skin to its natural volume. It is indicated for use on face wrinkles and folds, particularly around the mouth and nose.

Because Restylane injections are still a relatively new procedure, average costs have yet to be concluded. Furthermore, the amount of Restylane that is used varies to suit each individual's needs, so the cost varies as well. Price also depends on the area of the face in which the filler is injected.

In general, the cost of Restylane treatments is comparable to that of other similar cosmetic procedures. However, time between injections ranges from six to 12 months - longer than other similar procedures. Over time, less of the filler is needed to produce noticeable results. Restylane may prove to be a relatively inexpensive cosmetic procedure.

The part of the country where a patient lives is also likely to significantly impact the cost of Restylane treatments. Restylane injections are given by plastic surgeons all over the country. Major metropolitan cities often charge higher rates for treatment; New York and Miami are known as the two most expensive areas for the treatment. Cost can vary between $500 and $1,000 per injection.
