Lower eyelid surgery is a surgical procedure that is technically known as lower blepharoplasty. A popular procedure, lower eyelid surgery corrects sagging or puffy lower lids by removing excess tissue, rejuvenating the patient's appearance. However, lower eyelid surgery does not address the problems of crow's feet or dark circles.

Many candidates for lower eyelid surgery are in their late 20's or early 30's; their genetic predisposition to sagging eyelids makes lower eyelid surgery an appealing procedure. Older patients often decide to give themselves a refreshed look with lower eyelid surgery, and the simplicity and speed of the procedure appeal to a large number of individuals. Lower eyelid surgery can often be performed with only local anesthesia and a sedative, and generally speaking, lower eyelid surgery is conducted as an outpatient procedure, lowering the cost considerably. To conduct the lower eyelid surgery procedure, the surgeon makes a small incision just below the lash line (increasingly, lower eyelid surgery uses an incision inside of the lower eyelid) and the lash line and eyelid fold hides any external scars resulting from lower eyelid surgery. Most patients find that recovery from lower eyelid surgery involves minimal discomfort that is easily controlled with medication. Any bruising or swelling resulting from lower eyelid surgery usually disappears about week after procedure, and individuals often return to work within days of lower eyelid surgery.
